About me.

My interest in photography goes back to the 1980s, when I got a 'proper camera' for my 12th birthday. I soon joined a local photography club as the strange youngster who wanted to learn all about f numbers and darkrooms, going on eventually to complete my art degree in 1996. By 1993 I had started to catalogue the 1000s of images I had already taken, compiling them into books with their numbers and locations.

Collected together, I could see patterns forming in what I saw and took. The way I composed with line, colour and shape, making a frame around the apparently mundane. I was looking at the details, objects and even stories that others passed by, commemorating and saving them. I began seeking out ways to show my work to others, to encourage them to look too, to show them the simple and sublime pleasures that can come from taking a slower look at the everyday.

Having come through jobs at various galleries and photo libraries and learning so much along the way, I am so lucky to now have photography as my job - shooting mainly commercial and residential property. If you want to learn more about that, visit www.paulcliffordimages.com. I also enjoy creating new things out of objects I find, often working with natural forms that feed my creativity, and I like to draw and paint too. Alongside all this, I keep looking around, keep taking photos, and keep showing them when I can.
